Night Owl’s 100th Post

owl

If I were an owl, I would haunt you in your dreams.

You waken in the Dreamtime to find me

staring at you with outstretched wings

saying nothing.

You know that this is the moment you have been waiting for

the moment I need your attention.

A deep guttural sound will start

to rise within your chest

as you wrench your inner owl into existence.

It’s not easy to release

your true self buried beneath

the façade of your cultural armour.

The cry of your rebirth

reaches your throat,

hideous in its rasping rawness.

Too long have you denied your ability to sing

out to the night.

I will haunt you until you do.

Bisbee’s Got Talent and Orbs

Wiskey Girl and Nowhere Man

Backstage at the annual Bisbee’s Got Talent fundraising show for our homeless shelter. Derrick Ross of Nowhere Man and Whiskey Girl rehearses to an appreciative audience of orbs.

Bisbee Chorus

Members of the Bisbee Community Chorus are unaware of the attention they are attracting from the orb above.

Orbs danced along with Linda Herrera singing and playing a lovely percussion rhythm with clapping and pounding a cup.

High Desert Gypsies

Once the High Desert Gypsies began their tribal dancing, my camera lost interest in orbs and just focused on the color and light of their exquisite moves..

Renee wins each time she participates and always makes us wonder why she isn’t starring on Broadway.

Orbs in the Neighborhood

orbs in neighborhood

One of my readers would like me to go on a walk with her to look for orbs in her neighborhood. She was a little concerned when I mentioned in my Tombstone Orbs post that I said they liked saloons, and she doesn’t have any near her house. Well, there aren’t any saloons on my block either, but there are plenty of orbs.

neighborhood orbs

Orbs seem to like cars. But then again, maybe they just like to be found.

neighborhood orbs

One of my neighbors wanted to cut down this dead tree until I mentioned that it was an orb hangout. Luckily I have very indulgent neighbors and the tree is still here.

neighborhood orbs

Last night was still in the New Moon phase, so do not mistake this lovely orb within the agave branches for the full moon.

neighborhood orbs

Orbs can usually be found among the agave stalks.

Orbs are among us, please do take a walk in your neighborhood at night with your camera on the flash setting and go on a quest for orbs. Point your camera at the trees, the cars, a neighbor walking their dog. Hopefully you will be pleasantly surprised by your often invisible neighbors.  Good luck!

Tombstone Rose Festival 2013

Tombstone relives its past

Tombstone, Arizona relived its past glories today by celebrating the 128th blooming of the Tombstone Rose Tree. Most of the blooms were in the eyes of the celebrants who graced the boardwalks with their smiles.

Tombstone beauties

Somehow, I don’t think these people are playing dress-up. They are simply being themselves in full glory.

Tombstone citizens

Tombstone is dedicated to beauty, poise, and good manners.

Tombstone lovelies

Life in the Old West territory, happening now, today.

Tombstone Red Hat society

Let’s go for a spin.

Tombstone square dancers

And so, the joy spins on.

Johnny Bones

Johnny Bones was full of joy today.

Gemas Folklorico Dancers

So were Gemma’s Folklorico Dancers who entertained us from Douglas, Arizona.

Nogales AZ Mariachi Apache Band

The Nogales, Arizona High School Mariachi Apache Band was simply outstanding.

Please hand out record contracts to each and every one of the soloists.

Worlds largest rose tree

And finally, the world’s largest rose tree that brought us all together. The perfume is exquisite!

Orbs of Tombstone

TombstoneOrb2

As I was out walking the streets of Tombstone, I spied this man coming walking toward me. He asked what I was doing and thought I might be finding a ghost if I kept taking his photo. Then he turned to me and said, “You hoping to find those little white balls in your pictures?” Am I wearing a sticker on my forehead that says “orbphotog” ?! Then he advised me that I would have better luck down the street “at the corner”.

TombstoneOrb3

Perhaps I did see a ghost as he walked away. The “little white balls” followed him hopefully.

TombstoneOrb4

Down the street at the corner is the Bird Cage Theatre, a must see on any tour of Tombstone. And, he was right about the “little white balls”.

Tombstone

Here’s a look at Tombstone from the end of the street.

TombstoneOrb5

Perhaps the “little white balls” just enjoy corners.

TombstoneOrb6

They certainly seem to enjoy saloons.

I’ll be returning to Tombstone tomorrow for the annual Tombstone Rose Festival. Here is a peep at the newly crowned Rose Queen standing beneath the world’s largest rose bush this evening with her family:

Tombstone Westerners

Tombstone by Cheyenne MacMasters

Welcome to the town that was too tough to die: Tombstone, Arizona.  We won’t be seeing orbs today, but you can imagine them resting on the shoulders of this gentleman.

Our history is rather recent in the Old West, we’re just happy that some buildings have survived the desert sun.

If you’re lucky the boards of the sidewalks are roofed to keep out the piercing heat.

The Crystal Palace has been welcoming parched travelers for over a hundred years.

Meet Johnny Bones, an 1800’s minstrel who plays man’s oldest instrument: rib bones. He is holding a pair of bones in each hand, and his knees are strapped with tambourines. Mr. Bones is an elegant dancer with a big smile and some fancy moves.

Not everyone smiles in Tombstone, after all there are tourists and horses and vigilantes to watch out for.

“Meet me at the OK Corral at 4 o’clock” snarled the man in white.

For those who would rather listen to music instead of the sound of bullets, Big Nose Kate’s Saloon is the place to be in Tombstone. The hall was packed and the songs of the West were particularly sublime this afternoon.

Silent Orbs in the Night

blizzard Orbs photo by Cheyenne MacMasters

I found this photo after posting the series of blizzard orbs a couple of posts ago. It is such a pretty scene, that I want to share it with you even though it is not snowing tonight.

Below are the orbs which are sailing overhead this evening:

B mountain orbs photo by Cheyenne MacMasters

It is after midnight in the sleeping town of Bisbee, Arizona. Little do the residents realize who is gliding silently through the night.

For those of us not particularly gifted at seeing emanations of spiritual beings, a camera’s flash will bring them to light.

Have you checked out your roof top lately to see who is flying overhead?

Orbs Gather for Full Moon

PinkOrb photo by Cheyenne MacMasters

The full moon often draws us into the night to photograph the sky. I found this lovely pink orb while out with the moon a couple of nights ago.

The moon is the bright light cradled in the trees. I thought you might enjoy the movement of the orb across from the moon, and the way the pinkish orb is perched on the tree in the center.

Last night the moon was slower to rise, but the orbs were waiting patiently.

In fact, I want you to realize just how dense our sky can be with flying orbs.

I’m experimenting with different densities of brightness and contrast to reveal the orbs.

Practically a blizzard of orbs grace our skies.

Inspired by the moon, an orb outshines the crowd.

I encourage you all to seek the orbs outside your doors in the night. It’s just a pretty sight to discover who floats through your neighborhood.

Night and Day Snow Orbs

Orbs photo by Cheyenne MacMasters

We were on blizzard alert yesterday in Bisbee, Arizona. Schools took the day off and county offices closed early before we went to white out conditions in the afternoon. The early evening brought a bit of clear sky except for an occasional orb floating through.

orbs photo by Cheyenne MacMasters

I especially like the tiny blue orb perched above the wire fence we put up to keep the dog out of cat territory.

orbs photo by Cheyenne MacMasters

Later in the evening the snow returned, much to the interest of the orbs who mingled with the snowflakes. Takes a practiced eye to distinguish orbs from snow. The orbs are more translucent and in my neighborhood are often shaped like tear drops.

We have had more snow this year than in my previous 18 winters in Bisbee.

Hot Air Balloonists Honor Roy Walz 1953-2012

Blue Moon hot air balloon pilot Roy Walz photo by Cheyenne MacMasters

Hot air balloonists gathered in Marana, Arizona on February 17, 2013 to honor one of their own: pilot Roy Walz who passed away at the end of 2012. Roy was a man of good heart and loving generosity who would take you for a ride higher and longer than ever before. I had the privilege of crewing for him and his Blue Moon balloon. He gathered a wonderfully fun team to be a part of as we sent him soaring aloft at many a rally in Arizona and New Mexico.

People brought their favorite photos of Roy. I’ll share some with you here.

We were blessed with another beautiful morning when Richard supervised the memorial flight of the Blue Moon.

Dan Ewer, of Foolish Pleasure Hot Air Balloon Rides, served as pilot for Roy’s balloon. Everyone gave a helping hand to send the Blue Moon into the air once again.

A balloon for each of Roy’s 59 years on Earth escorted him on his last flight while his ashes were scattered.

Many a tear fell as we wished Roy farewell. Yet, he lives with us now and always in our hearts.

The Winds have welcomed you with softness, the Sun has blessed you with its warm hands, you have flown so high and so well God has joined you in your laughter and set you gently back into the loving arms of Mother Earth and the Crew.
