Orbs on the Eve of a New Year

New Year Eve Orbs

Bisbee, Arizona celebrated the last day of 2012 with 9 to 10 inches of snow. It began melting off the rooftops fairly soon into the morning, but by evening there was still snow on the ground. However, it wasn’t snowing during the night before the New Year, those are orbs sailing above the hillside.

New Years Eve orbs

It is interesting to see how just a few moments can make a difference in the number of orbs in the sky. Especially when you see the third picture in this series:

New Years Eve cloud orbs

This is one of those odd “cloud” formations that I have come to associate with the orb photos that Naturesnippets guests on this blog. I never photographed one before this photo. I immediately took another picture:

New Years Eve landscape

We are talking seconds apart between the third and fourth picture, and went from thick “cloud” to one pale orb… Several photos later were the same stark black night. I even tried exhaling to see if that had been a factor in the cloudiness, but no, not even a mist.

New Year Eve orbs

So, I gave up questing for “clouds” and went back to looking for orbs. I’ve always liked this oak tree, but rarely find as many orbs as it had last night. An interesting start on the eve of a new year.

Happy New Year everyone!

Guest Orbs in Snow and Award Nominations

KathyP snow orbs

In celebration of snow, guest orb photographer, Kathy of Naturesnippets http://naturesnippets.com/ is sharing the orbs she found at her house this week. Looks as if a few of these are hexagons, so perhaps cold does slow down the speed of orbs. A hexagonal shape would indicate that the light of the orb reached the camera just as the shutter was beginning to close.

KathyP snow cloud orbs

Here is an interesting blur of snow orbs flocking around a tree at Kathy’s place.

KathyP spirit cloud orbs

Kathy contributed the fantastic “clouds” as a guest a few posts ago. She was drumming ceremonially the night she took these pictures and that may be a contributing factor to the kinds of images she receives while questing for orbs. The first picture in this series was taken before she started drumming.

KathyP orbs and small cloud

Another glimpse of a “cloud” with orbs from Kathy’s backyard. Eleven out of 77 pictures that night had some of these “white clouds”.

Kathy is new to the quest for orbs, inspired by the photos on Orbs Delight. I encourage all of you to set aside your usual tried and true photographic methods and try orb questing yourself. You’ll have a better chance of detecting the orbs if you use flash photography and if you use a camera that has a CCD sensor (almost any digital camera less than $500) the CMOS sensor of higher quality cameras censors out most orbs.

And now, as we begin to ring in the New Year with the fireworks I can already hear soaring across my hillside, I would like to thank a couple of people for recent honors:

Blog of the Year 2012 Award

Thank you very much to Some Photos and Fancies for nominating Orbs Delight for Blog of the Year http://ellenpardee.wordpress.com/2012/12/14/blog-of-the-year-2012-award/.  As we say in American parlance “that puts the cherry on top” or in Mexico “con queso” which indicates everything plus! For those of us new to blogging, this nomination of our endeavors adds to the delight of discovering the wonderfully supportive and encouraging community found on WordPress. Some Photos and Fancies is an excellent example of the conscientious effort put into blogging that benefits us all. Please visit Ellen’s blog for insightful questions as to the nature of our assumptions.

Now that is really going to tickle an orb’s delight after all the accusations of being a mere dust mote! Please visit Tuttacronaca for more reality than it is possible to assimilate in one hour, day, or week.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EACH AND EVERYONE!

MAY YOU ALL FIND THE JOY IN BEING YOU!!!

Hexagonal Orbs

Last night was cold in Bisbee, Arizona. Some of yesterday’s snow was still on the ground and I’m glad my jeans are baggy enough to accommodate long underwear. Because now that the world has ended and begun again, there are still some routines that must be done, like walking the dog at night. For a quester of orbs this is prime time to see who’s in the neighborhood.

These are all orbs lighting up the image, can’t say that I noticed them lighting up the night until I took the picture. Digital flash photography is my extra pair of eyes to discover the world around me. Some of you who are familiar with my blog have noticed that orbs are particularly attracted to dog walks with my husband, much more than if I’m out by myself with the cats. What is different about the photos in this posting is the hexagonal shapes of many of the orbs (you may need to enlarge the image on whatever computer device you are using  to see the sharp edges).

hexagonal orbs walk dog Cheyenne MacMasters

The large orb at my husband’s shoulder has all the characteristic details we have come to know in orbs: the darker inner rim and interior modulations. But the hexagonal outer edge indicates that the orb’s light reached the camera when the shutter was beginning to close. At first I thought it was the cold that was affecting the speed of the light. However, I just double checked my camera and the top dial on the Canon G12 was set at AV instead of the usual Auto setting I use for orb photography. So, there goes my initial cold orbs are slower theory.

A few hours later and we’re back on the road with a party of orbs sailing overhead and all around. Nothing like a brilliant orb and the whole gang showing up on the view screen to bring a smile and shout of delight to this orb quester!

It has been a week since my last post, a time of holiday relaxation and fun with family. Yesterday I began to catch up on all the blogs that have been accumulating in my e-mails. What a busy and creative mix of passions and enthusiasms you all have to share! I was also startled to notice that I had been nominated for another award, The Versatile Blogger Award 2012, by Poèmes Français & Anglais, Poems French & English by Gys at http://lgyslaine.wordpress.com/2012/12/26/versatile-blog-award-2012/. Gys certainly is deserving of praise for her versatility in writing both French and English poems as well as her photo montages, all in celebration of love. Thank you for the honor, Gys, and I like the award’s image:

Orbs Attend End Of World Sound Check

Orbs at End Of World C MacMasters It was the night we all were anticipating, The End of the World, according to the Mayan Calendar experts. At least three End of World parties were held in Bisbee, Arizona. I only lasted until the beginning of the end, having arrived ahead of schedule. The orbs are probably still lingering in the upper corners of the Bisbee Royale.

Thank goodness there was a sound check for the band, Race You There. Too early for the actual show, at least the orbs and I had something to focus on.

Some skeptics insist that orbs are merely dust. But they haven’t paid attention to the relationship between orbs and their response to music.

The orbs are lining up for what sounded like an excellent Race You There performance. Sorry I missed the show when the orbs would really brighten with delight.

Thank you to the Bisbee Royale and the Tucson band Race You There for some early evening entertainment on this night at the End of the World.

Delighting in Rodeo Games of Summer

Eager Daze axe toss C. MacMasters

On this long-awaited day, December 21, 2012, I thought I’d step aside from the doom and gloom and revisit summer games held in a little Arizona town called Eager.

Eager Daze 2012 Egg toss

Each summer I look forward to Eager Daze, where adults and children compete to have the most fun, especially during the traditional Egg Toss.

Future ranchers work out their moves.

Obviously not the easiest job on the ranch.

The littlest ranchers watch and learn.

Sheep and the child are off into the great arena.

This boy has been studying rodeo technique.

With the luck of the draw, you might just get the sheep with the most bleat.

children log cutting

The youngest log cutter was not impressed with merely placing among the finishers. He really thought he should be number one.

adult log cutter

There is still time to dream of becoming a genuine Mountain Man contestant going from town to town. I saw this log cutter at the next event hundreds of miles away a month later.

Hope you are all having a delightful time on this greatly anticipated day. I’ll be questing for orbs tonight, how about you?

Stormy Night Orbs

Stormy Night Orbs Cheyenne MacMastersThe sky tonight was so beautifully cloudy, I pulled out my camera to see if there were any orbs in the neighborhood.

Stormy Night Orbs Cheyenne MacMasters 1a

Agave plants seem to attract the most orbs on our hillside.

Stormy Night Orbs Cheyenne MacMasters 2

What is particularly fascinating about tonight’s orbs is that they are windblown.

Stormy Night Orbs Cheyenne MacMasters 3

Most of these orbs are leaving trails and they are all heading south.

stormy night orbs Cheyenne MacMasters 4

Never occurred to me that an orb could be windblown while sailing overhead.

stormy night orbs Cheyenne MacMasters 5

I especially like the orb blowing by in front of the agave stalk.

stormy night orbs Cheyenne MacMasters 6

You’d think we were experiencing a meteor shower of orbs.

These orbs above may be heading away from the camera.

stormy night orbs Cheyenne MacMasters 8

The wind was so strong this evening that besides blowing the orbs to the south it motivated me to make sure nothing would blow from our yard into the street.

Again, one orb is just speeding past the arm of an agave. Who knew that the very physical characteristics of wind could have an effect on what Klaus Heinemann calls an “emanation of a spiritual being”?

Orbs Love Blogs of the Year

Blog of the Year Award 6 star jpegOrbs Andy T - Nick Nixon BandOrbs Party Tree

It has been an eventful year for orbs, you and I discovered that they are everywhere! And, guess what, they brought us together wondering and marveling at their existence. One thing I’ve discovered about orbs is that they are very social. They like events such as musical performances, they like parties, and they like it when the whole family walks the dog. Remember that next time you are out for a walk with friends or enjoying a performance.
Sergio Mendoza y la Orkestra orbs

So, let’s ring the bell and celebrate the gifts that orbs have brought to our lives, not just mine. You found me and I found you and the world is better for our knowing of each other’s existence. Two gifts have recently come to me from across the great waters: Poèmes Français & Anglais, Poems French & English by Gys, and Uzuma of 85 Degrees have each nominated me for Blog of the Year 2012!! They join Motion Photography, Wanda of Ale Książki/And Yet the Books, My Secret Love for You, and Jacquie Bloggera in making an orbs delightful gifting from all over the world.

Please visit Gys at http://lgyslaine.wordpress.com/ for poems of love and longing in both French and English. Some might make you cry, many will make you smile if you have been so lucky to love so well.
